I decided to do a make-up and hair tutorial in honour and excitement of the show. I did not do the hair from this year because I saw clips on how it was done. It’s a very tedious and damaging process involving alternating a large curling iron on each strand of hair to create waves and not curls. The models’ hair were dampened with hair spray prior to waving, leaving the hair hard looking until it had fully set. A similar and more simple version of this hair look could be achieved with moose or wave spray, which I have done before. Overall, really damaging, but I guess Orlando Pita needed to make sure that the waves would last all night.
I choose to do the more classic and effortless waves we have seen in past shows. Previously, I did a more voluminous version of the look as well, see it HERE.
The Make-up however, was totally refreshing. I love how natural the models looked this year. The look had a classic winged liner, not too thick or too long, but the kind that every girl should wear from time to time. The models were glowing, wearing gold highlights above the cheeks and the brow highlight. Cheeks were done in pink and the lips were done in a natural pouty pink colour with a little bit of gloss.
Here’s my take (not exactly the same, but to my liking):
Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturiser in Beige
Physican’s Formula setting powder
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
MAC Bisque, Arena, Jest, Sable & Woodwinked
Rimmel khol pencil in Jet Black
L’Oréal Telescopic Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Carbon Black
Maybelline The Falsies Black Drama Mascara
Maybelline Moisture Extreme in Nude Blush (discontinued)
H&M double-ended lipgloss in Wake Up and Smell the Roses
If you can’t get your hands on Nude Blush, try Maybelline Moisture Extreme in Born With It. It’s a gorgeous pink shade that works well full-on or just dabbed on the lips.
I would also say that if you do not have all these MAC eye shadows, you don’t need to go out and buy them. For the most part, I did what I wanted on the lid but in the VSFS, they used shimmery light shades & a gold highlight. My liner was winged out more and I chose to define my crease further. I’m not one for bold cheeks, so I use a light hand with blush.
The show airs on November 29th, 2011. Let me know what you think of the Victoria’s Secret hair and make-up.
