Alexa Chung Inspired Outfit

Today’s post is an Alexa Chung inspired outfit. Alexa Chung‘s iconic style has always fascinated me. Her outfits are always simple, school-girl-ish, and well put together. I don’t even know if school girl-ish is a proper adjective. In previous interviews, she has stated that her style is a cross between a little girl and grandmother. I think it’s modern, simple, androgynous but girly and classic all at once.

I’ve wanted to film and photograph an outfit inspired by what she wore at the Inglourious Basterds premiere, back in 2009. I gravitaded toward this look because it’s a classic and will be wearable for years to come, if not forever.

She wore the following:

  • black mini skater skirt
  • white button down shirt with a studded collar
  • black quilted Chanel flap purse
  • black Mary Jane sling back platforms

I didn’t have a studded collar button down, so I opted for this silky pijama inspired shirt instead. I love that this shirt has a hound’s tooth textured fabric and black trim on the pocket and sleeve cuffs.

On bottom, I am wearing a mini skater skirt that I thrifted a year ago. You can find these everywhere in all price ranges:

The platform heels are not quite what she wore at the premiere. Though, she typically wears the coveted Prada platforms that I have blogged about before, see here. Various designer collections have featured two strap heels, such as Alexander WangLanvinCarven and much more!

I snagged this quilted circle purse from Ardene a couple of years ago. This purse features a silver chain shoulder strap. It’s the closest thing that I own to a Chanel purse and it cost me a mere $15!  Too bad Ardene rarely makes purses I would considered purchase worthy.

Alexa Chung is also known to wear slippers, she might have even been the one to have brought them in style! I opted for these velvet slippers from Zara. You can find them in a range of different materials or types of embellishments to suit your taste. Similar slipper shoes:

Nice! I’m gonna try this right now!

  • Such a great outfit! I’m a big fan of heels but I’m also a big fan of comfort for whenever I’m not shooting or at an event. I love how you showed the look wearing both! The bag is adorable but the only issue I have with little bags is that they have no room for flats! I always bring both with me! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I’m now following/stalking you via tons of different platforms ’cause I looooove what I’ve seen so far! Much love! A.
