I was inspired by the military trend this fall 2012. This trend was seen in the AW 2012 Victoria Beckham collection, amongst others. We have seen this trend come and go, it was seen last in 2010.
There are several ways of following this trend. I would steer clear of attempting the look from head to toe. You can opt for a parka coat or for a modern twist, take a military inspired jacket with leather sleeves. Another way to modernize the look would be to mix military inspired pieces with more feminine pieces such as lace or skater silhouettes.
Instead of overtly following a structured military theme, I decided to pair softer textures and classic neutral shades such as black, military olive green and light camel/beige. All of these colors can be seen in the camouflage print, which is also making a huge come back.
I’ve also taken the opportunity to mix and match some pieces I recently received from ROMWE, those items are:
- Double Zips Black Single Shoulder Bag*
- Angular Frames Black Sunglasses*
- Single Eye Shape Earring* (sold out)
Military Trend Outfits
I thrifted this utility vest in military green from the children’s section a year ago. I knew it would make a nice touch to the outfit. This entire look was entirely inspired by the colors in camouflage print. An all around bargain look, every piece cost me under 50$, except the boots and purse.

This double zip purse comes with a pouch inside, which would serve well for hiding lady things you don’t want people to see, you never know! The one grip I had about the purse is that it came folded and I haven’t been able to get ride of it. I tried leaving the bag stuffed for a couple of days before filming, it faded a bit, but not as much as I had hoped. The double zips remind me of the 3.1 Phillip Lim Black Pashli Satchel, not exactly alike, but it’s a re-occurring trend in bag hardware this season.
Double Slit Maxi
In the second look, I’ve switched out the vest and put on a long maxi skirt from ZARA‘s current A/W 2012 collection. It has two high slits on either side, which I absolutely love. They remind me of my mom’s old 90’s skirts. I also love slim maxi or midi skirts, that’s an entirely different story.
Back on topic, I’m wearing the same elastic and suede ankle boots, which I spoke about in my massive ZARA sale haul post. I love them because they remind me of the Isabel Marant Dicker boots that have been so popular.
Continuing with my maxi skirt obsession, here is a sheer one that is also from ZARA. Unfortunately, this one is not current, but coincidentally ROMWE has a lot of sheer maxi skirts and dresses. Sheer fabrics have been a trend for a long while now and you can find anything from sheer tops, palazzo pants to skirts of all lengths. For added height, I’ve added spiked platform wedges on bottom. I love the way the spikes/studs only show when I walk away because of the long sheer maxi skirt.
