I did a
quick video about all the products I use in my skincare routine recently on my channel (subscribe here). I want to go more in dept about each step and product, because the video felt a bit rushed. First up; removing makeup.
Changing my night time skin care routine vastly improved the condition of my skin. I may always be prone to break outs, but that doesn’t mean I can’t avoid them. Removing my makeup properly was the single most important step that helped diminish acne.
Removing Makeup | Skin Care Routine
I want to point out that sometimes I do reach for other products, but these have been my two current favorites for removing makeup at night.
Marcelle Eye Makeup Remover Pads
Marcelle Eye Make-Up Remover Pads CA$9.95
Formulated with aloe vera and cucumber extract, these eye makeup pads are a dream to use. All I need is one pad for both eyes to remove everyday makeup or one pad per eye for heavy makeup. They are fragrance and paraben free, they don’t irritate my eyes. These eye makeup remover pads are also oil free, so they don’t leave a thick layer of oil on the skin.
To remove my makeup, I simply press the pad lightly against my eye lids. I let my eye lids and lashes soak up the solution, making the makeup removal process so much easier while reducing the risk of premature wrinkles. Then I gentle swipe the pad so as to remove my makeup.
A trick for removing mascara from the lashes is to move your head right and left (as if you were nodding “no”) against the pad as opposed to rubbing the pad against the lashes. I find I also lose less lashes in the makeup removal process with this method.
Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution
Micelle solution is a popular choice for removing makeup. But why? In short, according to an article in Best Health “the composition of the molecules makes them brilliant at trapping and gobbling up makeup, dust and pollution.” I couldn’t have explained it better myself.
It’s not the best solution for oily skin, but they do have one specifically formulated for oily skin (find here). Something else worth mentioning, Bioderma Sensibio is not ideal for removing waterproof mascara (which I rarely wear).
I try to opt for the 500 mL bottle when it’s available seasonally because it’s more economical than the 250 mL bottle.
I use this every night before bed. I use 2 pumps on a cotton pad and proceed to remove my face and eye makeup.
The eye makeup remover pads and micelle solution are things I use in interchangeable order. It all depends on how much eye makeup I’m wearing. Some nights I skip the eye makeup remover pads all together.
Let me know your go to makeup removing products are in the comments, what works best for you?
