Is it a lipstick, lip balm, lip stain, what? The Maybelline Color Elixir Liquid Lip Balms are like pigmented lip glosses that wear like a glossy lip balm.
These are from the color sensational line and are available in 20 ‘spellbinding’ shades which range from red, burgundy, orange, plum, pink and nude.
There’s a different shade to suit everyone’s tastes with cream and shimmery finishes.

Caramel Infused 065 | Mauve Mystique 025 | Celestial Coral 010
The Maybelline Colorsensational Color Elixir as a lip product hybrid reminded me of the L’Oreal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stains and YSL Glossy Stains. Apparently, it’s nothing like the YSL Glossy Stains, which I’m not familiar with in any case.
However, Maybelline and YSL fall under the L’Oreal umbrella, so it was only about time for these glossy stain look alikes to flourish on drugstore shelves.
Delivers the color of a lipstick, the cushiony care of a balm, and the glass shine of a gloss. The Elixirs have a smoothing angora brush that delivers a polished, even application and smoothing sensation to lips.
Apply lipcolor with applicator wand starting in the center of your upper lip. Work from the center to the outer edges of your lip, following the contours of your mouth. Then glide across the entire bottom lip.

I picked up Celestial Coral, coincidentally I noticed that Rimmel also has a shade by the same name. They are similar shades, but no where alike as products.
Celestial coral 010 is a pink coral, the most vibrant of the three shades in this post.
Mauve Mystique 025 is a pink on the purple/mauve side. It’s appears much paler and more pink on the lips than it appears in the tube.
Vision in Violet 040 is the most unique out of the bunch and probably my favorite for that very reason. It’s a blue base purple shade that is not for the timid. I can see this look great over lip liner, because like most of the colors in this range, the opacity is irregular and difficult to wear on its own.
Caramel Infused 065 a pink with minimal brown under tones. The color appears more pink on my lips than it appears in the tube. If I had to predict which shade I would wear most, it would probably be this one. Caramel Infused is the most wearable shade and it has the most even coverage of all four.
I think the Elixir delivers color, but it doesn’t necessarily have the opacity of a lipstick. Perhaps this is because I picked lighter colors, I don’t know. Celestial Coral fits the bill on the color claim. Although Mauve Mystique is very pretty, it’s not true to the color of the tube.
I do agree with “care of a balm, and the glass shine of a gloss” claim and “smoothing sensation to lips.” The formula helps the lips stay more hydrated than other glosses on the market.
The dough foot applicator‘s shape and texture are great, but I had trouble with getting an even application. I wanted to apply more product on my lips to achieve a more opaque application of Celestial Coral, but I felt the gloss was thick to layer in that fashion.
The scent and taste are strange and not entirely pleasant. I can tolerate these set backs because this gloss doesn’t dry out the lips.
I don’t think I would purchase more of these glosses. I recommend looking up lip swatches prior to purchasing these, specifically lip swatches because swatches on the skin are not accurate. These glosses tend to look more pigmented on the skin swatches I found online.
Some will love it and others won’t, this is entirely subject to personal preference.
Have you tried the Maybelline Elixir glosses or any gloss with similar claims? What are your thoughts?
