In my last makeup haul video, I said I had bought a couple of Maybelline products on clearance.
Maybelline Expert Wear eyeshadows have been repackaged. The old packaging is not as aesthetically pleasing as the new, however, I don’t think they have reformulated (correct me if I am wrong).
In this post, I will share swatches and a purple look with the Maybelline Expert Wear eyeshadows I picked up.
This look couldn’t have come at a better time since New Year’s Eve is coming and Radiant Orchid was announced as color of the year for 2014.
Expert Wear Chic Naturals Earthly Taupe 170S
Earthly Taupe is misnamed, it’s much more like a peachy warm beige neutral matte eyeshadow. It didn’t photograph true to color below.
It is a multi purpose shade that can be used in a wash all over the lid, as a high light or light transition eyeshadow. It is smooth to the touch and very forgiving as it is not very pigmented.
Maybelline Expert Wear Amethyst Smokes 06Q
Amethyst Smokes did not impress me as much as I thought it would mainly because of the crease and liner colors. Those applied patchy, which is a shame, because the base and lid shades are actually gorgeous and well pigmented.

Amethyst Smokes Makeup Look
For this look, I started with Earthy Taupe all over the lid to facilitate later blending.
Using the Amethyst Smokes quad: I applied the base color as a brow and inner corner highlight. I used the lid and crease colors in respect to their names. I used the liner shade to slightly deepen the outer crease. I also used the lid and crease colors along the lower lash line.
To finish my look, I wore L’Oréal Infallible Super Slim 12H eyeliner and Cover Girl Lash Blast Clump Crusher mascara. Lastly, I’m wearing L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Caresse Stick Lipstick Violet Chiffon 175.
How do you feel about Amethyst Smokes? What makeup look do you have planned for NYE?
