January 2014 is in full swing. This might be the perfect opportunity for me to share what’s in my makeup bag before I go back to school and stuff it with school supplies. You might remember from my last makeup bag video, I tend to mix my makeup with my highlighters, pens and all those lovely things.
During the holiday season, or any season where I’m not in school for that matter, I carry one pen and then the rest of the bag is strictly stuffed with makeup and beauty essentials. Such beauty essentials include things I may need when I’m staying elsewhere over night (yay, slumber-party!).
What’s In My Makeup Bag
In the video above, I pulled out each item out of my makeup bag in random order. However, for the sake of this post, I’m going to divide my items into categories.
My makeup bag, in case you are wondering, is by Betsey Johnson. I purchased it on discount at Winners (the Canadian equivalent to Marshall’s).
I’m calling this section ‘the basics’ because it is comprised of what I think every girl should have handy, so-to-speak. I’ve included moisturising products like hand cream, lip balm, and cuticle cream here. I put in beauty tools like a mini nail file, hair ties and a mirror compact. Lastly, for anyone who has oil skin – blotting sheets aren’t even an option, they are a must!
- Fruit & Passion bamboo hand cream
- Whispering Willow lip balm
- Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Creme
- Equate oil absorbing sheets
- La Senza mirror compact
- Hair elastics
- Nail file
The overnight essentials
The overnight essentials are the products that are great to have handy when you are sleeping over somewhere other than home. Travel size beauty samples are your best friend! I carry a couple of face moisturisers for day and night. I also like to carry something to treat blemishes, since I have acne prone skin.
The one item I didn’t include in this list was makeup remover. I actually carry a sample of Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes. It only comes with 7 wipes, but I split them in half. If I’m sleeping over at my boyfriend’s (which is usually the case), I keep a travel size bottle of Bioderma with cotton pads at his place.
- Caudalie Premier Cru The Cream
- Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
- Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask
- Vichy Normaderm Hyaluspot
First and for most, I like to carry a concealer because you never know when you will have a spot to conceal while you are on the go or the day after not sleeping at home. I didn’t include foundation or BB cream, but I normally carry a sample of either if I have any.
I’m all about eyeliner and mascara. I have a nude liner, which I like to wear in the water line. Brown or black liner is also a must, since they can replace the need for eyeshadow. I carry a sample mascara and a sample eye lash primer (if I have one).
When I’m in a rush going to work or school and I didn’t have the time to do my makeup, all these things come in handy.
- L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon concealer
- Lancôme Cils Booster XL mascara primer
- Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Nude
- Benefit They’re Real mascara
- Estee Lauder Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner Duo 01 Blackened Black & 02 Cocoa *
I’ve already included lip balm in my basic necessities, but I’m a lip junkie and I carry loads of lippies! There are on rotation, but my go-to lip products are usually nude pinks.
- Urban Decay lip gloss in Naked
- Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain Honey
- Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick Sheer Tint SPF 15 in Blush *
- Lancôme Baume In Love in 110 Urban Ballet *
