Avon Eye Dimensions Eyeshadow Swatch & Review

The new Avon Eye Dimensions Eyeshadow trios found their way in my mailbox recently, along with the Ultra Color Absolute Lipsticks. I received four of six available shades.

Right off the bat, the look of these shadows remind me of the Maybelline Eye Studio Eyeshadow Quads (I wasn’t a fan of those), except these are trios and they come in square shaped packaging. I think the packaging is cute for the price point, it’s compact and they store nicely.

The trios mostly contain either metallic, satin or shimmery shades. Sultry Smoke was the only one I saw with a matte soft black, charcoal color.

As you can see above, the pigmentation varies from shade to shade and you sometimes end up with a dub in the trio. By far, the most evenly pigmented of the trios I received is Khaki Chic.

Neutral HazeSultry Smoke and Sweetheart Plum have patchy lighter shades; they are glittery rather than pigmented. It’s too bad, because all three of them have a great dark eye shadow in them. The trios that has middle shades I liked were Khaki Chic and Purple Haze, whereas the other two lost their pigmentation when blended out .

I did a look using the plum trio to show you how they perform. I like the look I came up with, but I had a few issues working with these trios.

The lightest shades can be layered over the darker and mid toned ones to add a bit more sparkle. However, the lighter two shades of the palette faded when I would blend the edges of the darker shade.

I tried the highlight shades with a wet brush and it created a nice metallic finish with more pigmentation, but the lighter eye shadows simply don’t stick around for very long. Primer or cream base helps these stay on and appear better. Another concern of mine was that I found these easy to over blend.

These may work for you, but these are just not for me. The texture claims are true for the most part, but these shadows over-blend easily and loose their pigmentation. Definitely use more of a packing application technique rather than swiping, you will need to go back and touch up each shade after blending.

Unfortunately, I would only securely recommend Khaki Chic. The other trios have nice colors, but I’m only impressed with their darkest shades.

What are your favorite glitter eye shadows in your makeup stash?
