La Roche-Posay Micellar Water Ultra Review

La Roche-¬Posay has introduced three Micellar Water Ultra formulas with glyco¬-micellar technology to its product line up to suit a variety of skin types since not all-sensitive skin is alike. I was kindly contacted to try all three formulas; Micellar Water Ultra for Sensitive/Normal Skin, Micellar Water Ultra for Dry/Reactive Skin and Effaclar Micellar Water Ultra for Oily Skin.

Having been a fan of La Roche-Posay’s, EFFACLAR DUO[+] Global action acne treatment, among other products, I was eager to put the new products to the test. If you haven’t tried micellar water, you should know it’s a beneficial skincare product that can be simply added to your regime. At first glance, it looks like regular water, but don’t be fooled.

Micellar water is made up of micelles suspended in soft water. Micelles are miniscule balls of cleansing oil molecules. The micelles capture and lift dirt and oil particles from the skin effortlessly, without drying it out. In my experience with both high-end and drugstore micellar waters, no two waters were the same.

Though it sounds complicated, the product itself is very easy and effective to use. Simply soak a cotton pad with Micellar Water Ultra and gently glide it over the face, eyes and lips. Rinsing is not necessary.

Instead of using a soap cleanser in the morning, which can irritate the skin, Micellar Water Ultra can be used to gently freshen up the skin. At night, Micellar Water Ultra can be used to remove your makeup.

What the difference?

Micellar Water Ultra Sensitive Skin simply left my skin feelings clean, smooth and hydrated. It has a detectible scent that does not linger. Post application, it’s the least detectible on the skin after it’s dried.

Micellar Water Ultra Reactive Skin would be a great addition to anyone who suffers from dry skin. This one is completely fragrance free. Post application, it leaves skin hydrated, similar to a light moisturizer. In short, it offered up the most hydration of the three formulas.

My skin is best suited to use Effaclar Micellar Water Ultra Oily Skin because I have oily combination skin. It contains Zinc, which is shown to reduce sebum (oil) production. I definitely noticed the formula helped reduce shine. Post¬ application, it leaves skin feeling clean and smooth, however it doesn’t hydrate as well as the other formulas. It also takes the longest to settle after the skin has dried.

Available in in all the pharmacies distributing La Roche-Posay products in Canada at $19.95 for 400ml.
